Antonio Amaral

“Yesno” is a film created using traditional animation. This means that the characters are animated on a light table. The drawings are then traced in black ink onto celluloid—a completely transparent paper specially designed for animation. Finally, the cels are painted by hand [a process known as “gouache,” a technique that has all but disappeared today].

Once the character drawings are complete (about 3,000 for this film), they are scanned and combined with the backgrounds for the various scenes.
